About The Position

Smiths Interconnect, a global leader in high-performance interconnect solutions, is seeking an assembly technician to perform assembly of all products within the Production area using specialized assembly machines. The role involves interpreting and performing functions per product process plans and complex engineering prints, as well as a wide variety of assembly/support on electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical, or measurement systems. The technician will be responsible for determining and following methods and sequences of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering, cable harnessing, welding, and fitting on assembly units. Additionally, the technician will conduct testing and production machine setups while adhering to tolerancing stated in component/assembly drawings, and will be expected to demonstrate above-average manual dexterity and the ability to work with very small parts.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in assembly, soldering under a microscope and working with wire connectors
  • Ability to interpret and perform assembly functions
  • Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions
  • Above average manual dexterity and the ability to work with very small parts
  • Ability to work with others
  • Good eye/hand coordination

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of established SPC processes for the product being produced
  • Interprets and performs functions per product process plans and complex engineering prints
  • Performs a wide variety of assembly/support on electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical or measurement systems
  • Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering, cable harnessing, welding and fitting on assembly units
  • Test and production machine setups performed while adhering to tolerancing stated in component/assembly drawings
  • Demonstrates above average manual dexterity and the ability to work with very small parts
  • Testing/R&D of Company and competitor’s products and components
  • Separates non-conforming product from conforming product
  • Knowledge of quality system documentation and the interrelation of the complete quality system
  • Meets the required rate of production, over 80%, for the product being produced
  • May be responsible for closing jobs and pulling production schedule for the team
  • Requisitions and communicates maintenance needs for special set-up and complicated machine adjustments
  • Compliance and participation in all Smiths Connectors EHS programs, policies, procedures and training requirements
