About The Position

Our amazing Cabin counselors, alongside their Co-counselors, are the heart and soul of our camp, caring for a spirited group of 8-10 campers. These rockstar leaders make the magic of camp happen! With a passion for working with kids and a love for the outdoors, our Cabin Leaders are key players in creating unforgettable experiences. Every morning, they bring joy and excitement to cabin and camp activities and every evening, they dive into all-camp fun. These Leaders are not just caretakers; they're responsible, positive role models who tackle each day with boundless energy and enthusiasm and monitoring the overall care and safety of campers. Working at camp you will learn leadership, develop skills, teamwork and training like no other. No matter what your career goals may be, camp allows your hands on job experience and skills that can benefit you in any direction your career path takes you. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have an interest in working with youth and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Certifications: CPR, AED & First Aid.
  • Must complete Red Woods Online Training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a group of children.
  • Provide a safe environment for children
  • Plans, implements and leads program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Dedication to job, camp participants and the YMCA cause.
  • Must be able to self-regulate your emotions in a fast-paced community environment
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Know where all group members are at all times.
  • Maintain appearance of camp through cleanliness and set-up, with a "It's My Camp" attitude.
  • Actively engage children and participants in activities.
  • Report all injuries and incidences to the Director or Coordinator.
  • Attend all Scheduled staff meetings and Trainings
  • Display YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibilities at all times.)
  • Supervision during swim time; staff are required to supervise both in and out of the water, Required to Swim at least two times per week.
  • Servant leader in doing what they can to help the overall success of camp
  • Have fun!

Benefits

  • Starting Pay $225.00 per week, plus room & board
  • Additional pay for specialized certifications (ie; Lifeguard, ropes and more)
  • Housing is provided for the summer.
  • Camp Shirts are provided.
  • Meals are provided when dining hall is open.
  • All training certification costs, and time are paid for.
  • Free laundry facilities and Wi-Fi are located in or near staff housing.
