About The Position

The CAAS Accounting Supervisor provides direct supervision to the Accounting Specialists and oversees fundamental accounting services provided by the CAAS Department. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Supervisor also has the responsibility to supervise the work of multiple staff. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end client tax and audit projects, and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Supervisor will have contact with clients and client contacts, including the client’s tax accountant and other professional service providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Prior audit preparation and/or bookkeeping/accounting service experience.
  • Experience supervising others in providing accounting services and project management.
  • Willingness to travel (as needed).

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience in a client service environment (preferred).
  • Competent in performing processes for completing account reconciliations for each type of general ledger account classification.
  • Knowledge of governmental and financial accounting and reporting standards
  • Proficient in advanced applications of Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to: VLOOKUP formulas, pivot tables, and text to column imports.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in planning meetings with the CAAS Accounting Manager to explain the audit preparation and/or accounting services process to clients’ and CAAS personnel.
  • Overall day-to-day management of financial reporting accuracy and on-time processing of client information.
  • Identify and delegate responsibilities, as recommended by the CAAS Accounting Manager, to ensure clients’ accounting personnel have opportunities to contribute to the audit preparation process to ensure efficient and timely completion of engagements.
  • Supervise and collaborate with Team Members to ensure documents and reports (trial balances, chart of accounts, general ledger details, subsidiary ledgers, etc.) are exported from the clients’ accounting systems and are sufficient to complete the engagements.
  • Supervise and collaborate with team members to ensure reports received in electronic form are properly imported into various software programs used to analyze account balances and general ledger transactions.
  • Provide training to Accounting Specialists.
  • Ensure general ledger account reconciliations (i.e., supporting schedules) are properly prepared to substantiate the period-end general ledger account balances.
  • Work with clients to assist in the preparation of additional schedules or reports.
  • Day-to-day supervision of CAAS Accounting Specialist I and II and CAAS Assistants to include setting priorities, evaluating quality of daily work, and training of existing and new staff.
