Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Entry or Associate Level Tooling Manufacturing Engineers to support multiple programs at the San Antonio, TX site. These programs include the C-17 MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) program within our Special Tooling team. In this role, you will be responsible for researching existing tooling availability, providing design input, developing and implementing fabrication plans, and maintaining tooling solutions that support aircraft sustainment and repair operations. You will collaborate closely with production teams, mechanics, and cross-functional engineering groups to ensure that current, existing and future tooling solutions optimize safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in the MRO environment. While your primary focus will be on the C-17 platform, you may also have opportunities to similarly contribute to tooling projects for other aerospace programs.

  • Researches existing tooling solutions and determines current inventory across the production system.
  • Compiles and analyzes technical data to determine the effects of modifications on product engineering design and rate estimates.
  • Assists with drafting of Internal and Supplier Statements of Work defining tool fabrication requirements.
  • Assists with validation of contractual performance milestones, maintains configuration control, conducts reviews, prepares plans for productions readiness, preventative maintenance, and spares.
  • Develops and conducts training as required for Production and Maintenance personnel on proper tool usage after based on existing tool usage instructions.
  • Develops and implements workarounds for production delays caused by missing or nonconforming tools and assists in developing and/or monitoring configuration of hardware, software and documentation.
  • Performs studies and makes recommendations for disposition of assets on current and future work statements.
  • Supports verification of compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements on new tool designs.
  • Researches and identifies alternate technologies including robotics, automation or technology recommendations and system integration for equipment and tooling to improve current manufacturing methodologies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and may be requested to support other programs as needed.
  • Bachelor of science from an accredited course of study, in engineering.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on continuous improvement and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and their application to tooling solutions.
  • Ability to work in a hands-on production environment, interfacing with mechanics and other engineering disciplines.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and enforce standardized manufacturing processes, work instructions, and engineering procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to work on-site 5 days per week.
  • 2+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, tooling design, or production support engineering.
  • Experience in a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks) for tooling design and modifications.
  • Familiarity with C-17 aircraft systems and maintenance procedures.
  • Understanding of composite and metal fabrication techniques.
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., AS9100, FAA regulations, military specifications).
  • Experience with project management or supplier coordination related to tooling fabrication and procurement.
  • Experience with special tooling, jigs, fixtures, or ground support equipment in an aerospace or industrial setting.
