About The Position

Novelis is the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, producing an estimated 19 percent of the world's flat-rolled aluminum products. We work alongside our customers to provide innovative solutions to the aerospace, beverage can, automotive and high-end specialty markets. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Novelis has approximately 11,600 employees in 33 operating facilities on four continents and is investing $4.1 billion to build a new low-carbon recycling and rolling plant in Bay Minette, Alabama. The highly advanced facility will serve growing demand for aluminum beverage can sheet in North America. The new facility will also serve the automotive market, where aluminum is the fastest growing material as automakers make plans to achieve their sustainability goals. It will aim to be net carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2, be powered primarily by renewable energy, use recycled water and be a zero-waste facility. The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking a Buyer to join the team. The ideal candidate must be capable of communicating efficiently and frequently with all levels of Suppliers and Plant Stakeholders in performance of their responsibilities. Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to negotiate, is a critical success factor. In addition, organizational and time management skills, as well as digital literacy, are vital. The incumbent must be a self-starter and capable of making decisions in a timely fashion. MRO / Spare parts experience is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Proven 3-8 years in the purchasing field
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Business, or related field
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Outlook, and Excel), Experience in Coupa or SAP is preferred
  • Some knowledge/exposure to Maintenance related MRO commodities
  • Experience in contractor and supplier development, scope of work review, value analysis, delivery and quality assurance, alternative material evaluation, price increase challenges, specification clarification, service contract development and management, maintaining adequate inventories of new materials/operating supplies, resolution of invoice and receipt discrepancies, disposal of the surplus material and equipment, general business engineering analysis of projects, preparation of data and reports
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work

Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day purchasing activities including, but not limited to, processing requisitions, issuing purchase orders, obtaining vendor confirmations, verifying promise dates, and confirming product delivery for various Novelis manufacturing plants throughout the country.
  • Negotiate with vendors to ensure the best pricing and delivery, and support resolution of performance and delivery issues.
  • Pursue Cost Savings / Cost Containment by soliciting pricing bids/quotes and negotiating pricing with vendors in conjunction with category managers, while also working to establish objectives for optimizing cost
  • Research the specifications and obtain quotes of complex SKUs across a wide range of non-metal commodities and categories.
  • Drive process improvements to improve overall efficiencies within the Procure-to-Pay process.
  • Assist with supplier & internal customer invoice issues, concerns relating to deliveries, and inventory status.
  • Data Collection for commodities, plant or corporate procurement initiatives as required.
  • Work with new Suppliers to onboard obtaining vital financial information.
  • Expedite any orders which may require acceleration of lead-times.
  • Have the flexibility to support multiple time zones and availability for rotating 24/7 emergency call schedule.
