About The Position

This role will support the procurement of components, raw materials, and services essential to the production of small motors. The Buyer will be responsible for sourcing quality materials at competitive prices, ensuring timely delivery to meet production schedules, and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • A minimum of 10 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to use keyboard, answer and use phones, and read from a monitor screen.
  • Must be able to operate motor vehicle for visits with product vendors.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Dynamics AX experience is a plus.
  • AXISM or APICS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for procurement and negotiating contracts for assigned commodities.
  • Establish a working relationship with suppliers, communicating production requirements.
  • Create and release purchase orders and expedite those orders as required.
  • Develop and monitor metrics relating to supplier performance (delivery and quality.)
  • Work with Engineering on new product releases and prototype materials requirements to ensure that specified materials are available and that costs are within budget.
  • Streamline purchasing processes with efficient use of MicroSoft AX and other tools.
  • Ensure that all MicroSoft AX purchased parts data is accurate, such as lead times, purchase cost, units of measure, supplier information and that open purchase order due dates are kept current.
  • Monitor purchase price variances. Work with and/or lead product cost reduction teams to reduce purchase cost wherever possible.
  • Maintain purchased materials inventory levels that are consistent with sound inventory management practices and support business objectives.
  • Expedite the return of rejected materials and support Quality Assurance procedures to effectively eliminate the root cause of the discrepancy.
  • Negotiate the resolution of issues related to rejected materials.
  • Effectively contributes to the successful completion of projects as assigned.
  • Recognize/anticipate barriers to completing assigned work/projects.
  • When standard procedures do not apply, use judgment and draw on past experience to interpret information, solve routine problems and/or recommend approaches.
  • Promptly develop and implement long-term resolution of procurement problems.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the role of technology in business and as it applies to one's own functional area and adopt technological change that impacts own functional area.
  • Adhere to defined and communicated policies, standards, methods, and procedures, with openness to identifying improvements.
  • Seek and implement process improvement ideas in primary work area and focus on activities that increase efficiency and add value
  • Source, evaluate, and purchase raw materials, components (e.g., copper wire, magnets, bearings), and services to support small motor production.
  • Identify and develop new suppliers to improve quality, reduce cost, and increase reliability.
  • Take responsibility to lead improvement projects within role responsibility.
  • Work effectively with production, engineering, office, and vendor teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with a wide range of coworkers and departments.
  • Build trust with others through own authenticity and follow-through on commitments.
