About The Position

The Buyer is responsible for the timely quoting, purchasing, and receipt of materials, as well as production planning, assembly scheduling, and inventory control for assigned products. This role ensures alignment with MRP/ERP system requirements while supporting overall business objectives. The position is expected to establish, monitor, and maintain strong supplier performance aligned with key business targets, including on-time delivery, quality, lead-time reduction, and cost savings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in purchasing and/or materials control, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong PC skills required, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience working within MRP/ERP systems as they relate to procurement functions.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing, planning, and basic accounting processes.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree required with emphasis in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Operations or Engineering.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the MRP/ERP system to purchase, plan, allocate, and issue materials to production in support of customer requirements.
  • Manage production schedules and maintain assembly schedules for assigned products.
  • Quote lead times and provide accurate shipping commitments.
  • Manage expedites, deferrals, pull-ins, cancellations, and AOG (Aircraft on Ground) requirements as needed.
  • Maintain inventory controls consistent with MRP/ERP system parameters and business plan objectives.
  • Coordinate movement of materials from suppliers to ensure on-time shipment and dock-date compliance.
  • Expedite materials when necessary to prevent production delays.
  • Monitor and resolve supplier delivery and quality issues.
  • Visit local suppliers to qualify new sources and assist in resolving production, design, quality, or delivery challenges.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, delivery terms, and long-term agreements under the guidance of the Materials Manager or Supply Chain Manager.
  • Interview and evaluate current and prospective suppliers regarding capabilities, logistics, and inventory management.
  • Coordinate engineering changes and quality matters between internal teams and suppliers.
  • Work with Design Engineering on Pre-MRBs and IDRs, and address BOM discrepancies or changes.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering with cost estimates.
  • Partner with Receiving and Quality teams to reduce and resolve 'grief rack' issues.
  • Support small business and government reporting requirements as applicable.
  • Create and maintain production, scheduling, forecasting, delivery, and shortage reports for assigned materials.
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics and implement corrective actions when needed.
