About The Position

The Buyer for Software & Technology at General Motors is responsible for sourcing technology purchases, including software and infrastructure, on both regional and global levels. This role involves developing, negotiating, and implementing sourcing strategies in collaboration with key stakeholders, ensuring compliance with corporate purchasing policies, and managing supplier relationships effectively.

Requirements

  • 2+ years relevant post-graduate work experience in purchasing
  • Project Management Skills
  • Understanding of basic technology (licensing and Legal) concepts
  • Capability to function independently
  • Proficient communication skills
  • High level knowledge (or ability to learn) about items being purchased
  • Analytical skills, including the ability to do in-depth benchmarking
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments simultaneously, and prioritize requests
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners
  • Knowledge of computer software (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Internet Research)
  • SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Bachelor of Arts/Science in a Business related field
  • High Level knowledge about IT/technology (Software, SaaS, Emerging Technologies)

Responsibilities

  • Understand the IT industry and the long-term direction GM/IT is headed.
  • Determine viable suppliers for technology requirements.
  • Develop and manage suppliers under the guidance of Quality, Service, Technology, and Price strategies.
  • Participate actively with key stakeholders, including IT, business stakeholders, Legal, and Security.
  • Manage annual renewal cadence and deadlines.
  • Adhere to Corporate purchasing and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Negotiate price, terms, and other items to complete full contract package.
  • Utilize GPSC Sourcing Process to manage Sourcing packages.
  • Establish a capable/competitive supply base through the GPSC Sourcing Process.
  • Develop benchmarking for each sourcing package.
