The Role The Buyer Planner is responsible for the production planning and inventory control activities necessary to plan, schedule and control production. Performs direct material purchasing, indirect material, capital equipment and services to support the production plan. Ensure timely production and purchasing and appropriate inventory levels manufactured and purchased items. Demonstrates knowledge and experience in production planning and purchasing. Collaborate with other functions and suppliers to minimize risks, ensure continuity of supply, maintain appropriate inventory levels, reduce supply chain costs, and improve internal and externa capabilities. Exercises judgment to determine order quantities, timing, and deliveries, changes to production schedules, and changes in market conditions that could affect supply reliability. May develop sources for materials. Adheres to good manufacturing practices and ISO requirements. Assesses and communicate with clarity supply plan risks and recommends actions to mitigate or avoid them. This role is onsite in Carlsbad, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in relevant experience is required in a highly regulated environment (manufacturing preferred).
  • Strategic thinker, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally and effectively interact with all levels of organization.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Experience with key performance indicators, process optimization, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in supply chain, operations, business administration, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and inventory management principles.
  • Familiar with federal and other regulations, e.g. QSRs, ISO, ISO 13485, CMDR.
  • Desirable certifications: ISM, APICS CPIM, CFPIM, or CIRM, or NAPM CPM.

Responsibilities

  • Determines production plans and purchase materials based on scheduling policies and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders on production plans and ensures a successful on-time-delivery.
  • Prepares, releases and maintains production work orders and release purchase order for subcontract manufacturing.
  • Leads or participates in R&D / manufacturing / procurement processes optimization and lean manufacturing projects.
  • Checks purchase requisitions, obtain quotations, examine bids, and make cost savings recommendations
  • Sources materials and services to support internal customer needs.
  • Monitors materials expiration dates and takes appropriate action to avoid expiry.
  • Identifies opportunities to negotiate costs of materials, inbound freight, and purchase contract terms and conditions.
  • Develops and maintains effective supplier relationships, and communication techniques.
  • Monitors supplier performance and takes appropriate action to manage suppliers.
  • Analyzes data and applies business intelligence to make business proposals and decisions.
  • Demonstrates commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of the Quality Management System per ISO, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Supports supplier or internal audits.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
