We’re seeking a Buyer to join our fast-paced Purchasing team in Pomfret, CT. The Buyer – MRO & Consumables is responsible for sourcing and procuring maintenance, repair, operating (MRO) materials, consumables, and services in support of production and maintenance operations within a manufacturing environment. This role partners closely with Maintenance, Production, and Quality / Engineering teams to ensure material availability, optimize inventory levels, and drive continuous cost improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 2+ years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience purchasing MRO materials and consumables strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers and manage vendor relationships
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and inventory management practices
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Procure MRO materials and consumables in support of production and maintenance requirements
  • Review and process purchase requisitions; create, issue, and manage purchase orders
  • Source and quote materials from approved and new suppliers to ensure best value, quality, and delivery
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, terms, and contracts with vendors
  • Maintain and manage inventory levels, including setting and adjusting reorder points and safety stock with appropriate team
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to quality, delivery, and cost
  • Identify and lead cost savings and continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., supplier consolidation, alternate sourcing, standardization)
  • Support plant uptime by ensuring timely availability of critical MRO items
  • Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory data within ERP/MRP systems
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand demand, forecast usage, and align procurement strategies
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and ethical sourcing standards
