About The Position

The Buyer III position involves sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and applying advanced techniques in the procurement of engineered equipment, spare parts for the maintenance warehouse inventory, operational chemicals, materials, supplies, and contractual services for the best overall value. The role ensures that pricing, quality, timeliness, and quantity aspects are consistent with the company's requirements. The Buyer III will employ appropriate strategies and tactics to develop short-term and long-term supply agreements that optimize the procurement process, economics, quality, and schedule requirements. This includes facilitating the implementation of electronic data interchange (EDI) technology with supply trading partners and obtaining competitive bids and proposals from suppliers. The position also requires conducting market analysis, locating new sources of supply, initiating corrective actions with suppliers, and conducting supplier performance reviews. The Buyer III will work collaboratively with various levels of the organization and assist with cross-training of lower-level department members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Supply Management.
  • Minimum of six years of progressive experience in purchasing/supply management.
  • Experience in petroleum refining, petrochemical, or chemical processing industries preferred.
  • Commercial and technical aptitude for purchasing specialized equipment.
  • High degree of interpersonal skills, persuasive ability, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in business application software and e-procurement systems.
  • Strong initiative, business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, negotiate, and procure engineered equipment and spare parts.
  • Develop short-term and long-term supply agreements.
  • Implement and use EDI technology with supply trading partners.
  • Obtain competitive bids and perform bid analyses.
  • Liaise with engineering firms, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Conduct market analysis for commodity forecasts.
  • Locate and pre-qualify new sources of supply.
  • Initiate corrective actions with suppliers for performance issues.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews.
  • Research product technical information and perform value analysis.
  • Interact as a team player and assist with cross-training.
  • Review contractual agreements for compliance.
  • Create purchase order confirmations in ERP software.
  • Utilize the procurement card program for transactions.
  • Support departmental and strategic goals.
