About the position

The Purchasing Specialist at Meridian Bioscience will play a crucial role in maximizing market share for Meridian Life Science (MLS) by developing strong relationships with suppliers. This position focuses on ensuring high levels of sales, customer service, quality, and profitability for MLS products. The successful candidate will interact daily with various departments to facilitate the order fulfillment process and manage supplier performance effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Procurement Specialists and Manager to evaluate sources of supply for new and existing products.
  • Prepare and transmit requests for quotes and purchase orders to suppliers, ensuring accuracy and appropriate approvals.
  • Manage vendor relationships regarding defective materials, order cancellations, delivery rescheduling, and pricing discrepancies.
  • Generate daily reports on open purchase orders and delivery issues.
  • Analyze backorder situations and expedite orders to meet production requirements.
  • Track and communicate supplier performance through reports and evaluations.
  • Notify manufacturing of changes in raw materials or suppliers and any delivery delays.
  • Adhere to Meridian's quality system requirements and ensure proper approvals for orders.
  • Maintain reports and data entry as needed, supporting production of spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Utilize company systems such as MAPICS, Infor Powerlink, and Master CONTROL effectively.
  • Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Escalate issues to supervisor/manager as necessary.
  • Assist the Planning Department with data entry in the INFOR inventory management system.
  • Exhibit a calm, courteous, and professional demeanor at all times.

Requirements

  • Associates in Business Administration; Bachelor's preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of purchasing or related supply chain experience, or an advanced degree with equivalent experience and 2 years of administrative experience.
  • Experience with ERP and MRP software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculations and applying algebra and geometry concepts.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to assess the importance of communications and take appropriate action quickly.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive data and records.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with other departments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Experience in a life sciences or diagnostics company.
