The Buyer selects, negotiates, and purchases merchandise, materials, and services for CDI, ensuring optimal quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery. The buyer will analyze market trends, manage vendor relationships, and monitor inventory levels to maximize profitability and meet organizational, production, and manufacturing needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration or related field.
  • 1+ years of experience applying broad knowledge of principles and practices of purchasing or materials management.
  • Exposure to supply chain management, supplier quality systems and sourcing strategy.
  • Must have good understanding of internal and external economic factors affecting business.
  • Must have product knowledge of assigned commodities.
  • Must have a good understanding of manufacturing processes, materials management, and inventory control.
  • Must demonstrate strong negotiation skills, planning skills and strong interpersonal skills to interact with suppliers and co-workers in a team-based environment.
  • Must have ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems in a high-volume environment with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with inventory software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Oracle Fusion experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing, inventory or material control background preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews requests for assigned materials, parts and/or services and verify specifications. Sources components or services from approved supplier list and ensure timely preparation and communication of RFQ (Request for Quote).
  • Reviews inventory usage to determine appropriate level of procurement.
  • Corresponds with approved suppliers to obtain price, specifications, and delivery information. Analyzes and evaluates bids to determine optimum value.
  • Negotiates price, quality, and delivery, and terms, selects supplier and places purchase orders while assuring compliance with local and Corporate Operating Procedures and Ethical Code of Conduct.
  • Expedites delivery of items by contacting vendors and shippers to ensure that merchandise, supplies, and equipment are forwarded on specified shipping date.
  • Assists other departments with problem resolution involving discrepancies between purchase order, delivered quantity, quality and/or price.
  • Works with engineering or manufacturing teams and/or other procurement staff to generate RFQ’s for new or modified parts and/or material. Analyzes and evaluates quotes to determine vendor selection. Maintains quotations for future reference.
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships on an on-going basis. Initiates new supplier set up. Tracks computerized procurement records of items or services purchased, costs, on-time delivery, quality, and performance. Evaluates supplier performance and recommends additions or deletions to the approved supplier database.
  • Identifies cost savings opportunities and assists in developing innovative approaches to supply chain management to achieve yearly cost reduction targets set by procurement team and general manager.
  • Assists in negotiating contracts with suppliers and/or subcontractors to minimize costs. Contracts will address such issues as stocking or consignment programs, unit price, delivery, terms, and conditions, etc. Maintains compliance with local and corporate requirements.
