About The Position

The Buyer I position at UPMC is responsible for managing the procurement of assigned goods and services, acting as the operational liaison between end users, commodity management, and vendors. The role focuses on cost reduction initiatives and compliance with preferred vendor programs, ensuring efficient purchasing processes and contract management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, OR, High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year of previous supply chain experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft or an equivalent ERP system is preferred.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and work well as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PeopleSoft or an equivalent ERP system.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze existing contracts.
  • Review volumes/levels for opportunities for future negotiations.
  • Identify, track and report cost savings and cost avoidance during sourcing initiatives.
  • Perform audits to validate pricing using various decision support tools within the department.
  • Support sourcing initiatives by proactively engaging with sourcing team members.
  • Compile and organize data to support sourcing initiatives.
  • Timely processing of incorrect/damaged goods to the supplier.
  • Achieve a reduction of new purchase order/invoice match exceptions and timely resolution of existing match exceptions per established metric.
  • Purchase power and signing authority for purchases up to $100,000.
  • Ensure purchase orders are dispatched and confirmed within the established metric.
  • Utilize system contracts when available.
  • Review incoming requisitions ensuring all data elements are correct, i.e. category code, pricing, etc.
  • Complete weekly SOX testing to include correcting and re-testing of 100% of assigned purchase orders.
