About The Position

As a Buyer’s Assistant, you are a vital part of the Buying team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and maintaining product SKUs, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring product information is accurately managed across all systems. The Buyer’s Assistant will also support purchase order processing, product onboarding, and catalog management helping American Furniture Warehouse provide its customers with the right product selection and availability. The ideal Buyer’s Assistant is meticulous, self-motivated, has excellent communication and strives to set goals and ensure continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in buying, merchandising, or inventory management preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the full Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP systems (Storis preferred) and PIM systems (inRiver preferred).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret sales and inventory data, including computing rates, ratios, and percentages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external vendors.
  • Strong time management skills, able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to perform well under pressure.
  • Learn and grow knowledge of our products and our customers
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications and licenses such as Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), and Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enter, update, and maintain product SKUs, pricing, and attributes in Storis, inRiver, and related systems.
  • Monitor and analyze product inventory; support reordering for domestic and imported products; recommend adjustments to buying teams.
  • Create and process transfers to maintain product availability across satellite stores and distribution centers.
  • Process purchase orders, track shipments, and follow up with vendors to resolve delays or issues.
  • Assist with new vendor onboarding by collecting and verifying required documentation.
  • Support product listing accuracy and optimization for hang tags, POPs, and omnichannel sales.
  • Collaborate with buyers, inventory, store managers, and vendors to address daily operational challenges.
  • Cover for other Buyer’s Assistants as needed.
  • Generate reports and analyze data to provide insights into purchasing and promotional strategies.
  • Provide administrative support to buyers, ensuring deadlines are met and processes are followed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
