About The Position

The Buyer 3 position at the University of Washington involves managing procurement processes, issuing solicitations, and negotiating contracts to support the university's purchasing needs. Requirements

  • Three years of experience as a professional buyer.
  • Either an Associate of Arts Degree in purchasing management or a Bachelor's Degree; OR equivalent combination of work experience and college level training.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) or Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) designations.
  • Demonstrated experience using personal computers, specifically using spreadsheet, database and word processing software (MS Office).
  • Experience in running and analyzing spend reports.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytic skills and high attention to detail.
  • Capability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Issue formal and other competitive solicitations per State and Federal requirements using Ariba tools as directed.
  • Coordinate with campus departments to develop specifications and evaluation processes.
  • Analyze responses for compliance with bid specifications, especially products with complex features and/or multi-commodity contracts.
  • Author, execute and manage Workday Supplier Contracts to support the UW Sub-award/recipient activities.
  • Analyze supplier performance history utilizing Workday and other system reports; conduct tests and product sampling to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Negotiate service agreements and contracts as directed; administer contracts and agreements for compliance with terms and conditions.
  • Prepare and develop original contract terms; authorize and draft contract amendments as required.
  • Input and manage contracts and renewals in Workday.
  • Conduct and document all assigned purchases with the administrative review of purchases above delegated authority.
  • Review and approve purchase requisitions in the Workday procurement systems (all commodities).
  • Provide information in response to questions from departmental/institutional officials, vendors, and business representatives.
  • Review proposed contracts for all commodities in Workday Strategic Sourcing and assess compliance and feasibility.
  • Review requests from campus for placing orders with new suppliers; assist campus in using existing contracted suppliers whenever possible.
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies, including review and approving Buyer exceptions within the Workday purchasing modules.
  • Assist new suppliers with enrollment and enablement.
  • Prepare and organize reports in Workday.
  • Contribute to Lean efforts by leading daily huddles or serving as a kaizen lead.
