The Business Technology Manager for AARP Driver Safety is responsible for administering, optimizing, and continuously improving existing business technology platforms to meet evolving business and Volunteer needs while aligning with AARP technology standards. This role is project‑management and user‑enablement-focused, serving as the bridge between Volunteers, business teams, and IT partners to ensure solutions are usable, well‑communicated, and deliver incremental business value. Additionally, as the Business Technology Manager, you will ensure that Volunteers and internal teams are equipped to use current tools and gather input, develop user stories, manage issues and enhancements, and lead training and change communications so users can effectively leverage current tools and workarounds while preparing for future platform improvements, including portal customization and program‑specific enhancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, Technology Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in business technology management, systems administration, application management, business analysis, or technology project management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and enhancing existing technology platforms with a focus on usability, adoption, and outcomes.
  • Proven project management skills, including requirements gathering, sprint support, issue tracking, risk management, and delivery coordination.
  • Strong ability to translate business and user needs into clear documentation, user stories, training materials, and process guides.
  • Experience partnering with IT teams and vendors to manage enhancements, troubleshoot issues, and drive resolution through completion.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross functional teams, in a highly matrixed environment, without direct authority and act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders.

  • Experience with Salesforce or Salesforce based platforms preferred; Salesforce certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manages technology projects and cross-functional teams to determine resources needed and responsibly stewards them, tracks progress against established timelines, evaluates training, and monitors adoption. Collaborates across teams during the discovery phase to assess value, usability, and feasibility of enhancement concept and experience.
  • Provides strategic guidance on the department's technology roadmap and manages the process of designing and implementing improvements and new functionality in technology applications.
  • Creates product strategies and roadmaps based on a deep understanding of the product technology stack, department goals and consumer needs. Leads technical engagements utilizing an agile planning and development methodology.
  • Acts as a business liaison with technology and vendors and provides end-user training and support. Provides counsel to other business units in the execution of technology initiatives and digital engagement. Collaborates with management and IT to identify opportunities to streamline technology processes that support the business unit. Engages with internal and external vendor teams to establish priorities, manage work requests, and ensure on-time delivery of enhancements.
  • Gathers an in-depth understanding of the organization's technical landscape, data management practices, workflows, and data available across the organization. Advises on data accuracy and integration best practices, as needed.
  • Defines and translates strategic business ideas into technical product implementations utilizing actionable, digestible user stories and acceptance criteria, ensuring all organizational, regulatory, and strategic compliance requirements and objectives are met.
  • Utilizes technology to advance AARP and consumer priorities. Serves as a resource within their business unit on appropriate tools/software and shares expertise openly and accessibly to advance business unit priorities and projects and to meet critical goals.
