About The Position

We create value from waste. At Bio Town Ag, Inc. you have the opportunity to join a team that looks beyond the traditional farming aspects of just agriculture and livestock. Our operation includes an anaerobic digester that recycles animal waste and other organic by-products to produce methane gas. This gas is used to power our facility, goes back into the electric grid or scrubbed and converted to natural gas and put in the pipeline. We are one of the most unique waste recycling operations in the United States. Position Overview: The role we’re looking for a junior-to-mid level developer to own, build, and evolve internal applications that connect operational data with business workflows. You’ll work closely with our Systems Engineer, gaining hands-on experience across: Business systems development (SQL, JavaScript, UI/UX, process automation) Industrial integration (SCADA design, PLC connectivity, plant networking) This role is ideal for someone who already writes code and works with databases, and wants to grow into end-to-end system ownership in a real operational environment.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in software development, internal tools, or business systems.
  • Strong SQL skills (joins, filters, aggregations, schema awareness).
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript.
  • Basic understanding of APIs and system-to-system integration.
  • Willingness to work on-site in plant environments as needed.
  • Intermediate JavaScript scripting experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with low-code tools (Appsmith, Budibase, Airtable, Retool, PowerApps, etc.).
  • Familiarity with SCADA concepts or platforms (Ignition preferred).
  • Exposure to PLCs or industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT).
  • Python scripting experience.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts.
  • Curious, fast learner with interest in both software and industrial systems.
  • Comfortable owning work and following problems through to resolution, and proof testing after development
  • Strong communicator who can work with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Comfortable asking questions and taking feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Own internal applications used by operations, logistics, and management, from design through deployment and iteration.
  • Design and maintain database schemas, queries, and data models that support operational workflows.
  • Build dashboards, approval flows, and automations that turn raw data into actionable processes.
  • Develop and extend applications using SQL, JavaScript, and Python, primarily within low-code platforms.
  • Design and integrate APIs between internal tools, external systems, and data sources across Bio Town Ag, Inc..
  • Test, validate, and troubleshoot data flows between applications and databases.
  • Document application logic, workflows, schemas, and integrations clearly for long-term maintainability.
  • Assist with SCADA development under supervision, including:
  • Adding and organizing tags
  • Updating and maintaining screens
  • Troubleshooting data flow issues
  • Help test and validate integrations between SCADA systems, databases, and web applications.
  • Gain exposure to PLC communication, industrial protocols, and plant network environments
