About The Position

The Business Support Analyst-Private Alternative Investments helps in the management of FMIM’s private markets portfolio, ensuring accurate capital activity tracking, documentation, investment reporting, valuation monitoring, and operational oversight of external fund managers. This position is a middle-office role with support for VP, Private Alternative Investments. The role works closely with investment teams, finance, accounting, custodians, and external fund managers to support integrity across the private markets portfolio. The ideal candidate will leverage their experience within middle office support, investment operations, regulatory compliance and risk management. An ideal candidate has strong technical proficiency and eagerness to optimize processes to provide exceptional support to the continued growth and evolution of FM’s investment management infrastructure. This role requires excellent communication and organizational skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and the ability to thrive in a small team environment where individual and small group collaboration are critical. Schedule & Location This position is an exempt, full-time office-based position in Waltham, MA and Boston, MA.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience in investment operations and support, preferably within an institutional asset management or insurance company setting.
  • Strong Excel and financial data analysis.
  • Private markets performance metrics.
  • Private equity fund structures.
  • Capital call and distribution tracking.
  • Process management.
  • Problem solving with attention to detail. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to proactively work individually and collectively in a small team-oriented environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Support operational processes and support for investments in Private equity funds, Venture capital funds, Private credit funds, Real estate and infrastructure funds, Co-investments and direct deals.
  • Track capital commitments and unfunded commitments. Monitor capital calls and distributions. Review and validate capital call notices from fund managers.
  • Support management of cash flow forecasts.
  • Help maintain records for Subscription agreements, Side letters, other supporting documentation.
  • Support recording of portfolio holdings and valuations.
  • Coordinate funding and process payments through custodians or banks.
  • Support reconciliation and oversight of external manager performance data, ensuring accuracy and consistency across systems.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings between external fund managers and investment team.
  • Set up and maintain accounts and assets within core systems for private alternatives portfolios.
  • Collaborate with team members and external parties to identify and implement opportunities to streamline operational and other workflows/activities to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Support reviewing quarterly valuation and methodology
  • Support in delivering internal reports including Private markets performance reports, Portfolio exposure analysis, Investment pacing analysis.
  • Ensure key processes and controls are well documented, maintained and where applicable enhanced, ensuring a high degree of operational transparency and audit readiness.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing investment operations capabilities and infrastructure.
