The Business Program Specialist (DBE/SBE) at the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is responsible for managing and coordinating the daily operations of the Agency's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and Small Business Enterprise (SBE) programs. This role ensures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations while focusing on recruiting small businesses, making eligibility determinations, implementing business development programs, and monitoring compliance. The position requires approximately 30% in-state travel and the ability to lift between 25-50 pounds.

  • Manage and coordinate the daily operation of the DBE and SBE programs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Recruit small businesses for participation in the programs.
  • Make eligibility determinations for small businesses.
  • Implement MDT's business development program.
  • Monitor compliance with program requirements.
  • Manage and report program-specific data.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • 2 years of experience in program management or a related field.
  • Alternative combinations of related experience and education may be considered, such as 6 years of related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Skills in public speaking, adult training methods, collaboration, and facilitation.
