The Role As a Body Shop Planner, you will be responsible for implementing and executing established business processes for areas of increased complexity within production operations. Your work will be technical in nature and require independent judgment within the framework of the General Motors Manufacturing System (GMS), with a strong focus on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). This role provides broad exposure to plant operations and business management, including budgeting, staffing, production support, maintenance coordination, planning, and change management. As a key representative of the Body Shop organization, you will work cross‑functionally across the plant and broader GM organization to communicate status, track performance, and enable timely actions that support departmental, plant, and enterprise objectives.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting manufacturing or production operations in a plant environment, with exposure to staffing, budgeting, scheduling, or operational planning.
  • Working knowledge of the General Motors Manufacturing System (GMS) or comparable production systems, including SPQRCE metrics and layered audit processes.
  • Experience preparing, analyzing, and reporting operational performance data to support business plan deployment, forecasting, and leadership reviews.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget preparation, cost tracking, and forecasting, including participation in cost council or financial review meetings.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate change activities related to productivity improvements, staffing adjustments, model‑year changes, and build events within a manufacturing department.

  • Experience working directly in a Body Shop, General Assembly, or Manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with change‑management activities related to product launches, productivity initiatives, or build events.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating recruiting, staffing movements, or vacation scheduling in a manufacturing department.
  • Comfort interacting with cross‑functional partners across Manufacturing, Maintenance, Industrial Engineering, HR, Finance, and Leadership.
  • Ability to clearly communicate operational performance, risks, and action plans to team leaders and department leadership.
  • Demonstrated capability to prioritize competing tasks and adapt quickly in a fast‑paced plant environment.
  • Experience using standard business tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, plant reporting systems) to support data analysis and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert for elements of the Global Workplace Safety System.
  • Participate in SOT and Layered Audit processes, tracking findings and supporting closure of actions.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present data to support Business Plan Deployment across all SPQRCE metrics.
  • Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly operating reviews to support departmental Group Leaders and Leadership.
  • Lead annual budget preparation, support Cost Council initiatives, and prepare monthly forecast updates.
  • Track labor hours against Hours Per Vehicle (HPV) targets and identify variances.
  • Maintain vacation schedules and support salary payroll processes.
  • Support recruiting efforts for salaried roles and coordinate hourly employee movement as needed.
  • Lead Plan‑for‑Change activities, including productivity improvements, station rearrangements, product changes, model‑year updates, and PCP/TEB actions.
  • Schedule and prepare materials for Team Leader meetings.
  • Oversee and manage service contracts with key suppliers.
  • Support execution and continuous improvement of the General Motors Manufacturing System (GMS).
  • Provide day‑to‑day support to plant floor operations and perform additional duties as requested by the Shift Leader or Area Manager.
