About The Position

This position is open to current, internal UConn employees only. JOB SUMMARY The UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalition within the National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology (NIUVT) at the University of Connecticut seeks qualified applicants for a Business Operations Specialist 1 position within the University of Connecticut Shipbuilding Initiative. The UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalition seeks to establish a long-term STEM pipeline program for naval related careers in Southeast New England. The program engages STEM talent K-12 through graduate school in innovative naval-focused activities and hands-on projects through participation form the regional Navy community to provide early and frequent interaction and ultimately, retention of students from this community. Working under the direction of the ANCHOR leadership, the successful candidate will provide administrative support, and significant program support to help administer the newly funded Advancing Naval Careers Through Higher Education Outreach and Research (ANCHOR) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) awarded to the University of Connecticut.

Requirements

Current UConn employee.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Three years of related experience.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
Experience using Microsoft products and software applications.
Proven time management skills in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably within a scientific institution/unit.
Demonstrated experience independently on routine tasks and in a team setting while regularly exercising sound judgment.
Demonstrated experience working with UConn electronic systems (KFS, WebFOCUS, HuskyBuy, Core-CT, etc.).
Demonstrated interpersonal skills with experience establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations.
Experience working with federal grants and contracts.
Experience working with financial enterprise systems and project management.

Nice To Haves

More than four years of related experience.
Experience with federal and state laws, regulatory requirements, and University policies governing the receipt and use of funds.
Experience with documents and stages in the revenue process (e.g. quotes, purchase orders, service agreements, invoices, accounts receivable, etc.).
Experience working with naval or defense industries or military personnel.

Responsibilities

Assists students, staff, faculty, and others with a wide range of administrative and fiscal matters.
Corresponds with administrators from other units, institutions, and serves as a liaison between the Center, faculty members, and other University offices.
Acts as fiscal manager for, and resources to, faculty members, team members, and program leaders responsible for the use of ANCHOR funds.
Monitors transactions for ANCHOR programming.
Meets with team to explain services and procedures, communicates financial information, and assists with transaction documents as needed.
Resolves outstanding issues on fiscal accounts, including follow-up on problems, to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.
Prepares comprehensive budgets and financial statements.
Complies with federal, state, and University standards and regulations.
Communicates with centers, units, departments and colleges for resolution of ANCHOR contract related concerns.
Develops and implements standard policies and practices for a variety of purchasing and reporting activities.
Supervises administrative support and is responsible for all unit purchases.
Within unit and University expectations, ensures compliance with established internal controls and departmental administrative policies and procedures, including maintenance and coordination of center records and deliverables.
Works on special projects as directed by supervisor.
Performs related work as required.
