About The Position

The Business Intelligence (BI) Lead is a hands-on role responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing business intelligence dashboards, datasets, and reports that drive operational performance across the organization. This position combines technical expertise in Power BI with team leadership to deliver high-quality, actionable insights. The BI Lead will manage a small team, resolve BI support tickets, and directly build and troubleshoot dashboards, data models, and integrations. A strong understanding of Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and basic data warehousing is required. Familiarity with property management systems such as Yardi, RealPage, or OneSite is preferred. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys doing the work — not just directing it — and thrives in a fast-moving, collaborative environment. Candidates seeking a primarily strategic or executive-level role may find this position too hands-on.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or reporting.
  • 2+ years of hands-on Power BI experience including DAX, Power Query, and data modeling.
  • 1 - 2 years of experience leading or mentoring BI professionals.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, ETL processes, APIs, and basic data warehousing concepts.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain dashboards, reports, and datasets using Power BI.
  • Develop and optimize DAX measures, Power Query transformations, and visuals.
  • Configure and manage Row-Level Security (RLS) within Power BI.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Power BI or data-related issues, including end-user support tickets.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of BI Analysts or Developers (2–3 team members).
  • Oversee workload prioritization, provide feedback, and ensure timely delivery of BI solutions.
  • Promote a collaborative team culture focused on learning and excellence.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources, including Yardi, RealPage, OneSite, and other systems.
  • Partner with IT and Data teams to maintain stable, high-performing data pipelines and refresh schedules.
  • Optimize data models and BI performance through best practices and automation.
  • Partner with Operations, Accounting, and Performance Management teams to identify BI needs.
  • Translate business questions into functional dashboards and analytical insights.
  • Train and support internal stakeholders to ensure adoption and effective use of dashboards.
  • Maintain Power BI workspace organization, security, and documentation.
  • Drive process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across reports and models.
