About The Position

Seasoned senior technical leader responsible for designing, delivering, and operating enterprise BI and data management solutions that turn data into trusted insights. This role blends hands-on technical ownership with stakeholder-facing leadership: you’ll build and govern data platforms, lead a team of engineers and analysts, and translate business needs into scalable data products. The position reports to the AVP/AVC of Enterprise Applications and Process Improvement, requires a four-year degree, ten years of experience and is hybrid with an on-site presence in Knoxville, TN. NOTE : Employment-based visa sponsorship is not available (including, but not limited to, H-1B, TN, E-3, O-1, F-1 OPT/STEM OPT, J-1), etc.)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related field.
  • 8+ years in data engineering, BI, or data platform roles with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT, SQL, data warehousing concepts, and analytics/reporting tools.
  • Proven ability to present technical concepts to non technical stakeholders and to gather business requirements effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing high performing technical teams.
  • Hybrid role based in Knoxville, TN; ability to work on site as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands on experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence.
  • Cloud and Modern Data Stack — Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure and Oracle preferred), data lakehouse architectures, and modern orchestration tools.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud platforms, data engineering, or BI tools.
  • Prior work in higher education, government, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, or other regulated industries is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy and Road map - Define and maintain the enterprise BI and data management roadmap aligned to CIO priorities and business objectives.
  • Champion the use of emerging technologies, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence to unlock new insights and drive value from data assets.
  • Team Leadership and Development - Hire, mentor, and manage BI, data engineering, and data management staff; set performance goals and foster a collaborative culture.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Act as the primary technical liaison to business leaders and end users; gather requirements, present solutions, and translate technical tradeoffs into business terms.
  • Platform Ownership - Lead architecture, implementation, and ongoing operations of the data platform and analytics stack; ensure reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Hands on Technical Leadership - Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines, data models, semantic layers, and reporting solutions; participate in code reviews and complex technical work as needed.
  • Data Governance and Quality - In conjunction with the AVP/AVC of Enterprise Applications and Process Improvement assist in the establishment of and enforcement of data governance, lineage, metadata management, and data quality standards across systems.
  • Project Delivery - Oversee project planning, prioritization, and delivery; manage cross functional dependencies and ensure timely, high quality releases.
  • Security and Compliance - Ensure data access controls, privacy, and regulatory compliance are implemented and audited.
  • Vendor and Tool Management - Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with BI and data platform vendors and third party service providers.
  • Performance Monitoring and Cost Control - Monitor platform performance and usage; optimize for performance and cost; report metrics to CIO and leadership.
