About The Position

This position conducts research and analysis for the Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities division to support management decision making. Position identifies ongoing needs for data research and analysis from program activity and leads projects to support business intelligence operations. This position is responsible for statistical analysis and dynamic reporting of Medicaid claims, surveillance information, health and treatment indicators, risk and protective factors, and other surveillance information and to report the findings. This position evaluates quality and efficiency of surveillance systems; analyzes programmatic and service-related data; develops new databases and other systems for data collection; designs, coordinates, and manages special surveillance and/or evaluation procedures where there is no other existing data available. Additional responsibilities include developing and conducting various trainings related to epidemiological and program evaluation and designing, creating program evaluations and reporting. Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and theories of applied mathematics and economics, including calculus, statistics, and econometrics.
  • Ability to translate data and statistical information including reports into laymen’s terms for multiple audiences.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to a problem.
  • Ability to analyze a project’s needs and requirements, develop a work plan, and complete the project.
  • Knowledge of surveillance concepts and theories including epidemiology, statistics, and public health practice.
  • Skill in programming in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or other statistical analysis tool.
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, statistics, finance, or related field.
  • Three years of job related work experience such as mathematical modeling and predictive analysis in a health insurance, hospital/healthcare, consulting, governmental or similar business setting.
  • Advanced level experience in MS Excel required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using business intelligence software for dynamic data visualization (Tableau, Power BI, ArcGIS).
  • Experience using software that analyzes large datasets (R, SAS, SQL).
  • Experience in Medicaid claiming systems, behavioral health-related epidemiology, statistics, or research analysis.
