About The Position

This rotational position is intended to serve two major needs. The immediate need is additional shift support for safety, training, quality, and continuous improvement. This position will be a resource for safety and training initiatives, while supporting OPEX and continuous improvement projects throughout the temporary assignment. The second major need is to improve the culture of learning and development offered in Freshpet academy. This will ensure we are building bench strength by investing in our employees and supporting future leaders in our organization. By creating a workforce focused on the four key areas listed, we will begin to grow our influence and the participants will strengthen and develop our values. Both major needs will be realized over the course of the program and a subsequent benefit of this program will be the return and value add of having someone from the floor, work on and address common concerns from the floor focused on the four key areas mentioned above. The employees selected will be trained in the required areas and be expected to produce results to prove competency. We intend to continue the rotational program and expect to continuously inject like-minded individuals back into our workforce and create a pipeline of future leaders.

Requirements

  • Must be able to demonstrate a proficient level of understanding of good manufacturing practices.
  • One (1) year of manufacturing or sanitation experience at Freshpet is required.
  • Detailed knowledge of Freshpets’ Safety, Quality, and Production commitments.
  • In-depth understanding of Freshpets’ current training program, Job instructions and TWI training style.
  • Great communication skills and Production Floor presence required.
  • Ability to motivate, evaluate and influence Team Members.
  • Good analytical, interpersonal skills and the ability to work well across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with little direct supervision.
  • Exhibits a passion for raising Team performance and Team development.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards, machinery safety, FDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), sanitation processes/procedures, HACCP, and other relevant safety information.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing techniques is desired.
  • Experience implementing GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) program through Safe Quality Food (SQF) or British Retail Consortium (BRC) certifications.
  • Strong understanding of the sanitation process in a food manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring proper procedures are in place and being followed for employee safety, food safety, and product quality.
  • Actively participate in Job Instruction review and edits.
  • Responsible for attending and conducting TWI training classes and Job Instruction lessons for trainers and new hires.
  • Leads/Assists in team member orientation, onboarding, and OTJ training (30,60,90).
  • Conducts/documents regular communications for team meetings to keep employees informed; encourages team member feedback/ideas.
  • Actively maintain open communication and exemplify our cultural values.
  • Conduct behavior safety observation every shift to improve safety culture.
  • Lead/Assists in safety related incident investigations.
  • Attends and participates in monthly shift-relevant safety / training committee meetings.
  • Leads/promotes workplace health initiatives (i.e., stretching)
  • Develops and completes improvement project that addresses safety, Training, quality, or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete required training courses (OSHA 10-hour, GMP auditing, TWI 10-hour, HACCP, incident investigation, behavior-based observation, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as required.
