About The Position

Entrepreneurship & Small Business (ESB) Instructor Muskegon Lake Shore High School & Career Center Purpose Statement The Entrepreneurship & Small Business (ESB) Instructor will lead the instructional delivery and credentialing process for students enrolled in the Entrepreneurship & Small Business Career Pathway. The instructor is responsible for guiding students through a structured, milepost-driven sequence of learning experiences that culminate in nationally recognized business credentials and demonstrable career-ready skills. This role requires the instructor to manage instruction, certification processes, and documentation while intentionally designing learning experiences that reflect the realities of entrepreneurship, small business ownership, and modern workforce expectations. The instructor will model and teach professional behaviors, communication, self-management, collaboration, and problem-solving as integrated components of daily instruction, consistent with Michigan Department of Education Career and Technical Education and Perkins V expectations.

Requirements

  • Option #1: Candidate already holds a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an appropriate CTE endorsement.
  • Option #2: Candidate must meet eligibility for and agree to complete the Annual Career Authorization (ACA) pathway to certification. This requirement includes:
  • Documented, recent, and relevant occupational experience in the career field, generally a minimum of 4,000 hours (approximately two years)
  • A minimum of a high school diploma (bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Sponsorship by the employing school district or career center
  • Participation in a mentoring and professional development plan while teaching under the Annual Career Authorization
  • Completion of all requirements necessary to renew the authorization annually until full certification or endorsement requirements are met

Responsibilities

  • Using approved curriculum resources, proprietary materials, and instructor-developed content, provide instruction in entrepreneurship, small business operations, innovation, and professional communication aligned to pathway certifications and Michigan Career and Technical Education expectations.
  • Provide instruction and skill development for students to achieve nationally recognized industry credentials.
  • Implement the Entrepreneurship & Small Business pathway using a structured, milepost-driven instructional model that follows established pacing guidelines and project benchmarks.
  • Design and facilitate project-based learning experiences that integrate business concept development, prototyping, market research, marketing strategy, operational planning, and financial analysis.
  • Coordinate and support work-based learning experiences that extend classroom instruction into real-world settings.
  • Ensure instructional activities and assessments align to certification standards and Michigan CTE expectations.
  • Provide a supportive learning environment and coordinate accommodations as needed.
  • Maintain certification processes, documentation, and professional authorization.
