About The Position

We have multiple openings for an Undergraduate Student Intern in the Business Directorate. You will work under the direction to complete a project, or series of projects, that combine hands-on experience with technical, analytical, and/or creative skills. You will gain practical experience applying artificial intelligence (AI), data analysis, and digital tools to real-world business challenges, while working across diverse functions such as Procurement, Creative Services, and Asset Management. Projects will be aligned with your interests and academic background while delivering meaningful value to the organization and will provide opportunities to collaborate with both technical and operational teams, as well as present findings and recommendations to leadership. Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See Additional Information section below for details.
  • Must be a college or university student pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business, Information Systems, Communications, Digital Art, Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear, Electrical, Environmental, Civil, Architectural), Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or equivalent program.
  • Ability to apply analytic or technical methods to solve a defined problem.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or interest in artificial intelligence, data analytics, or process automation.
  • Working knowledge of topics in the Business Directorate areas, (e.g., procurement, logistics, communications, graphics design).
  • Programming experience (e.g., Python, R, or similar) or familiarity with AI tools.
  • Background in multimedia, digital design, or creative technologies (for creative services roles).
  • Interest in business operations such as procurement, logistics, or communications.
  • Experience developing tools, dashboards, or prototypes.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and interpret data or information; develop reports, presentations, and tools to support business operations.
  • Perform technical analysis of data and apply effective analytical and problem-solving skills to complex problems.
  • Work on projects of moderate complexity involving business operations, data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI), or digital tools.
  • Contribute to projects such as improving procurement processes (e.g., contract or invoice review), developing AI-enabled tools for document analysis or workflow automation, supporting creative or digital services billing processes, or analyzing operational data related to campus services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for efficiency, innovation, and improved service delivery.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and/or prototypes to stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
