About The Position

SEIU UHW-West & Joint Employer Education Fund Position Description Job Title: Business Development Specialist, Nor-Cal Classification: Exempt Department: Business Development Reports to: Director of Employer & Labor Relations Location: California, Nor-Cal SEIU UHW-West & Joint Employer Education Fund The Education Fund is a non-profit partnership between six Locals of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and 22 Healthcare Industry employers, serving the education and training needs of 100,000 eligible workers. Our mission is to empower our diverse healthcare workforce to advance in a changing environment through innovative education and training solutions. Our program and budget have doubled in scale over the last five years to provide career advancement and continuing education services to 20,000 learners annually, and we are positioned for continued growth with new partners and funding. Principle Purpose of Job: Assess potential partners and provide development support of education and training programs for healthcare workers represented by SEIU UHW-West members who are eligible for Education Fund services. Support ongoing labor and management discussions and workforce needs of the region. Level of Authority: Works independently within the scope and direction of the Director Employer and Labor Relations (NorCal and SoCal) and in accordance with organizational polices and procedures. Work Environment: Work is performed in a complex environment. Will require frequent travel and the need to deal with a diversity of people and tasks. Will attend or lead frequent meetings with employers, (HR and Department Heads), union leaders and staff, members, learners, and other Ed Fund collaborators. Possible overnight travel is required.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree.
  • Must have a valid California Driver License, the use of a vehicle, and maintain appropriate level of car insurance.
  • Familiarity with Project Management concepts
  • Knowledgeable of Labor Market Trends, both regionally and with employers.
  • Strong leadership, critical thinking, coordination and organizational skills, are necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Workforce Development experience, is necessary.
  • Professional demeanor, with the ability to create rapport with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Proficient use of MS office suite.
  • Ability to drive and move from one site to another for extended periods.
  • Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a union/labor-management partnership is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works within a specified California region/route, by collaborating with multiple stakeholders, including Education Fund executives and staff, employers (HR, Department Heads, and staff, and vendors/training providers) to identify and assess potential training and program needs that will drive performance and outcomes specific to employer and bargaining unit size.
  • Must develop and maintain relationships with local union leaders, employers, steward council and other program partners/vendors to better understand training and development needs or trends.
  • Must develop Ed Fund presence with Local Workforce Development Boards (Employer, City and State).
  • Collaborates with Ed Fund Education Director to identify potential vendor partners and support the contract process, as needed.
  • Participate in the execution of communication strategies to recruit and/or cross-promote Education Fund programs and services by attending facility/employer events, staff huddles, and department meetings.
  • Data entry required in the scope of the position.
  • Advertise for, and recruit candidates to, the Education Fund Member-to-Member (M2M) and Ambassador Programs.
  • Provides support to M2M representatives, programs, and activities at their respective facilities.
  • Will promote marketing/communications efforts to drive members (learners) to program/project offerings.
  • Maintain member/employer electronic files in Ed Fund systems or others, when necessary.
  • Position requires high level of diplomacy.
