About The Position

This is a full-time, onsite role (8:00 am-5:00 pm, remote Friday afternoons) with occasional evening or weekend events as part of community and partner engagement. The Business Development Specialist plays a key role in advancing the Chamber’s mission to strengthen Mobile’s economic vitality. This position blends research, data analysis, marketing, and relationship-building to support business recruitment, retention, and expansion efforts. The Specialist ensures the Chamber’s economic development resources remain accurate, compelling, and accessible—helping position Mobile as a premier destination for business investment.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and maintain industry lists, publications, reports, and maps with up‑to‑date demographic and economic information for the Mobile area.
  • Oversee the Mobile Metrics dashboard, ensuring regular updates and improvements using current data.
  • Manage internal and external property databases, updating and adding information as needed.
  • Participate in meetings and site visits with the business development team.
  • Assist with Requests for Information (RFIs) by preparing and packaging project materials for prospects.
  • Manage the quarterly Cost of Living Survey with C2ER and provide comparison data.
  • Track business development activity—including prospect visits, RFIs, active projects, and pipeline metrics—and prepare reports for partners.
  • Support lead generation, GIS mapping, existing industry research, and workforce development research in collaboration with the economic development team.
  • Monitor and report progress on Partners for Growth metrics.
  • Provide data analysis to support leadership decision‑making.
  • Prepare ranking and accolade submissions and identify new recognition opportunities.
  • Coordinate with colleagues and state/local partners to identify assessment and analysis needs.
  • Research best practices to improve data presentation and delivery.
  • Support the Chamber’s program of work to enhance economic opportunities for all citizens.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required safety training.
  • Maintain regular work hours, travel as needed and attend occasional after‑hours meetings or events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
