About The Position

Ferguson is committed to driving the adoption of high-efficiency solutions that improve operational performance and help customers meet corporate or project specific sustainability goals. The Sustainable Solutions – Business Development Manager will execute this strategy by partnering with key customers and the associates who support them. Customers, such as, Ferguson Facilities Supply national accounts, national & regional builders, developers, mechanical and general Contractors involved in strategic & large capital projects. Additionally, sales associate engagement will be a critical component of the job as we strive to make Sustainable Solutions a core competency. This role can be Remote or Hybrid if currently based in the Newport News, VA, area; per Company Policy.

Requirements

  • Previous experience and knowledge of sustainable practices.
  • 5+ years of Business Development Management experience is necessary.
  • A strong sales background required; construction industry preferred.
  • Prior internal field/HQ experience, a minimum of 5 years with Ferguson preferred.
  • Problem solving, leadership and listening skills.
  • Product and vendor knowledge at a high level would be a strong benefit – Waterworks, Plumbing, Mechanical, Appliances, HVAC specifically.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • A competitive drive; self-starter.
  • Requires effective influencing skills that enable and facilitate cross-functional decision making.
  • Valid driver’s license required, approx. 25% to 50% travel required.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, ability to manage multiple streams of work.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with sales field leadership across both residential and non-residential Ferguson lines of business, or Customer Groups (CGs).
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow sustainable product and solution sales across all Customer Groups.
  • Identify strategic customers to engage, in support of National Account Managers or relevant associates and develop sales tactics & plan to grow sustainable product and solution.
  • Grow and maintain expertise in environmental products, green building, and sustainable practices.
  • Lead training and coaching programs for green products and sustainable solutions.
  • Develop, implement and monitor progress of key performance indicators for sustainable products and solution sales.
  • Support sales associates and engage customers to win projects that have Sustainable goals.
  • Oversee key projects, manage successful business deals, and develop new processes to meet customer sustainability needs.
  • Establish & maintain a communication cadence with product SMEs who support Sustainable Solutions and key partners across customer groups.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Communications, and Sustainability teams to develop and accelerate sustainable product offerings and communications.
  • Collaborate with the Incentive and Rebate team to capture more than our fair share of local and state funding associated with high efficiency energy and low consumption water products.
  • Support discovery and business case development for value-added services such as energy audits and green reporting.
