The Center for Technology Licensing (CTL) at Cornell University is seeking a Business Development & Licensing Associate (BDLA) to join its Physical Sciences Business Development and Licensing team. This position is based at Cornell's main campus in Ithaca, NY, and will report directly to the Director of Business Development & Licensing - Physical Sciences. The BDLA will play a crucial role in supporting the functions of Business Development and Licensing Officers (BDLO) and will be responsible for engaging with inventors, marketing technologies, and facilitating business development initiatives. In the role of BDLA, the individual will proactively establish and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, and students, promoting Cornell's research capabilities to external stakeholders. This includes reviewing and assessing new disclosures assigned by the Director. The BDLA will work collaboratively with the Director, BDLOs, Intellectual Property Officers, and the Innovations Partnerships Group to recruit and manage CTL Innovations Fellows and graduate student interns. They will also review and assess work products developed under CTL's internship program, which may include non-confidential technology summaries, slide decks, prior art searches, and company lists. Additionally, the BDLA will be responsible for contacting potential licensees to showcase Cornell inventions and create technology bundles for specific markets and strategic partners. The BDLA will also engage in business development activities by identifying and maintaining relationships with industry and investors, supporting company and investor visits, and attending relevant conferences and tradeshows. In terms of contracts, the BDLA will draft, negotiate, and manage Non-Disclosure Agreements and Inter-Institutional Agreements, participate in licensing negotiations, and draft license agreements and amendments as needed. The role will also involve developing strategic initiatives related to tangible research material monetization and managing contracts related to tangible research materials.
