About The Position

The Business Development - Inside Sales is responsible for identifying and qualifying new business opportunities through outbound prospecting, current customer contract renewal and inbound lead follow-up. The role is critical to building pipeline and accelerating revenue growth by connecting with potential customers, understanding their needs, and setting up high-quality meetings. The Sales team is responsible for providing high quality, streamlined service with a focus on corporate initiatives for their assigned customer(s). Our sales team is crucial in delivering the widest variety of fresh, branded, and owned brand products to community grocers and retail chains alike. With an ever-expanding selection of 1,000 new products every month, our team helps maximize sales with the right assortment of products based on customers' demographics and lifestyle. We are responsible for creating relationships of trust, integrity, customer satisfaction and loyalty to help our customers achieve their goals, delivering better together.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years sales experience and business development preferred.
  • Cold call outreaching and high-volume prospecting preferred.
  • Familiarity with sales opportunities.
  • Understanding of margin and company profitability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, company systems, including Sales Force.
  • Understanding and knowledge of products.
  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outbound calls, emails, and social outreaches to generate new leads and nurture existing ones.
  • Qualify inbound leads from Account Managers, marketing campaigns and website inquiries.
  • Research and identify target accounts and key decision-makers.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions and progress in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Collaborate with the sales teams to refine messaging and improve lead conversion.
  • Schedule discovery calls and demos, include other UNFI teams as necessary.
  • Meet or exceed monthly KPIs for outreach, meetings booked, and pipeline contribution.
  • Focuses on market development strategies for our current customer base, the affiliation of external retailers and retention of business through store brokerage.
  • Coordinates projects with several departments in a manner consistent with the needs of all parties, this coordination will be necessary to facilitate affiliation projects, new store development, expansions, upgrades, and store brokerage.
  • Specific coordination will be between the Inside Account team, Finance and Operations.
  • In conjunction with Finance and Commercial Value creation, accountable for financial projections showing the feasibility and profitability of projects in which a proforma is created and will be accountable for the accuracy of the projections.
  • Identifies the key activities and support services required to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Secures commitment from the customer to proceed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
