About The Position

Needham & Company, a full-service investment bank and asset management firm, is seeking a Business Development Associate for the Needham Funds to work with its New York-based investment team to play a pivotal role in driving asset growth and expanding Needham Funds’ footprint within the intermediary and institutional channels. This position is designed for a results-oriented professional who can bridge the gap between high-level investment strategy and investor needs. We envision this role maturing into a senior distribution or sales leadership position, directly shaping the firm’s growth trajectory and market presence. The ideal candidate has at least two years of client-facing experience in mutual funds, ETFs, wealth management or financial services and is passionate about building relationships and identifying new capital opportunities for Needham’s small- and mid-cap growth strategies.

Requirements

  • Experience: 2–4 years in business development, internal wholesaling, or client-facing roles within asset management or a related financial services field.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex investment concepts for various audiences.
  • Mindset: A hunter’s mentality combined with a consultative approach; proactive, resilient, and highly organized.
  • Market Fluency: A genuine interest in the stock market and investing (e.g., personal investment experience, active following of market trends, or participation in investment clubs)
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce), Morningstar Direct, or Zephyr; advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage a high volume of leads and multiple outreach campaigns simultaneously.
  • Licensing: FINRA Series 7 and 63 are strongly preferred (or the ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Sales Execution & Territory Management
  • Proactive Outreach : Initiate and manage outbound sales activities (calls, emails, and digital outreach) to identify and qualify prospective advisors and institutional partners.
  • Pipeline Management : Maintain a robust sales pipeline, tracking leads from initial discovery through to investment, ensuring consistent follow-up and movement through the sales cycle.
  • Market Intelligence : Monitor fund flows, competitive landscape, and peer performance to refine Needham’s value proposition and identify opportunities.
  • Investor & Client Engagement
  • Strategic Presentations : Deliver tailored investment presentations and performance reviews that articulate Needham’s unique investment philosophy to advisors, RIAs, and family offices.
  • Relationship Support : Act as a primary point of contact for inbound inquiries, providing deep-dive technical data on fund holdings, sector weightings, and performance drivers.
  • Event Strategy : Coordinate and represent the firm at industry conferences, webinars, and roadshows to generate new leads and strengthen existing partnerships.
  • Growth Analytics & Reporting
  • CRM Optimization : Leverage Salesforce (or similar CRM) to document all investor interactions, manage follow-ups, and produce weekly activity reports for executive leadership.
  • Data-Driven Insights : Analyze investor engagement metrics and platform availability to prioritize high-potential territories and firms.
