About The Position

The Business Development and Technology Analyst internship at Discovery to Impact focuses on transforming academic research into real-world solutions. The mission is to bridge campus innovators and the industry, harnessing over 130 campus programs dedicated to entrepreneurship and intellectual property. The role involves researching and communicating about new technologies across various scientific fields, including life sciences, physical sciences, and computer sciences. Interns will gain valuable experience in tech transfer, intellectual property, and business development, while also working closely with start-ups and industry professionals.

Requirements

  • Enrolled as a UT Austin graduate student in a science or engineering field, or McCombs graduate students with a science or engineering background.
  • Permission of UT Austin research adviser.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Responsibilities

  • Gain direct experience in tech transfer, intellectual property, and business development.
  • Assist in marketing technologies and gain exposure to patenting and licensing processes.
  • Conduct prior-art searches to inform IP strategy.
  • Perform market research to identify commercial partners.
  • Write compelling summaries of technologies for marketing purposes.
  • Network with companies and professors to help bring technologies to market.
