About The Position

As a land-grant university, MSU is proud to have the Mississippi Migrant Education Service Center, which serves agricultural families throughout the state. The Mississippi Migrant Education Service Center is a federal program that offers supplemental and supportive educational services to ensure that migrant children have access to all opportunities that a public education offers. The Mississippi Migrant Education Service Center is funded through the Mississippi Department of Education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 4-6 years, directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Knowledge and previous experience using spreadsheets and other appropriate software programs.
  • Ability to learn and operate necessary technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business.
  • Experience in fund accounting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish. Fluent in Spanish.
  • Experience working with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile and assist with fiscal administration for the department/unit, including but not limited to budgets, funding, grants, contracts, payroll, employment, travel, and/or purchasing.
  • Maintain an efficient system of receiving, posting, and depositing revenue and receiving, verifying, posting, and processing vouchers for payment of goods and services.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchases; communicate with vendors for prices, bids, and other information.
  • Prepare journal entries to record income, expenditures, interest, fund transfers, encumbrances, etc.
  • Transfer funds between accounts following established guidelines.
  • Prepare various accounting schedules, statements, and reports for monthly and annual reporting.
  • Reconcile the MMESC financial records with university accounting records.
  • Gather data for budget preparation and inventory reports; prepare or assist in the preparation of the annual budget, and procure all supplies, furniture, and office equipment.
  • Maintain updated files and records in support of accounting data and have all documents ready and available.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the MMESC Director such as inventory, building management, MSU compliance trainings to staff, and in-house policy development.
