About The Position

The University of Chicago Research Computing Center (RCC), a unit in the Office of Research, provides high-end research computing resources to researchers at the University of Chicago. It is dedicated to enabling research by providing access to centrally managed High-Performance Computing (HPC), storage, and visualization resources. These resources include hardware, software, high-level scientific and technical user support, and the education and training required to help researchers make full use of modern HPC technology and local and national supercomputing resources. The Office of Research oversees the conduct of sponsored research, research program development, and contract management functions. Reporting to the Director of Administration and Faculty Programs, the Business and Programs Administrator is a key team member who advances the Research Computing Center (RCC) mission by providing high quality support for the Center’s flagship programs. This role supports the growing and varied faculty service programs and manages core business operations, including robust recharge/service center operations. The position performs routine assignments related to academic, research, clinical or administrative programs. This hybrid position requires at least three days onsite per week.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Responds promptly to faculty and researcher inquiries about RCC programs and services, providing relevant information or connecting them with appropriate RCC staff.
  • Prepares and processes paperwork for financial transactions, partnerships, HR, and other RCC programs, ensuring thorough documentation in relevant systems.
  • Oversees high-volume, complex recharge/service center billing, reporting, and related financial operations.
  • Reviews contracts and vendor statements of work as needed; maintains updated non-disclosure agreements.
  • Plans and supports committee meetings, including preparing materials and recording minutes.
  • Proactively suggests and implements process improvements for RCC business operations.
  • Serves as backup for RCC’s administrative assistant and department coordinator.
  • Researches and analyzes data to prepare diverse reports, including those for grants and contracts.
  • Performs some routine and complex assignments for the unit usually in the areas of finance, event planning, or support services.
  • Initiate the hiring process of students and staff for a unit, which includes processing of payroll.
  • Researches and analyzes data to create reports and may create other reports for grants and contracts.
  • Analyzes program budgets and uses a moderate/high level of authority to recommend or makes budgetary recommendations.
  • Interacts with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
