About The Position

Overview: A member of the Commercial Credit team that partners with senior team members supporting the duties of Commercial Credit Operations. Responsible for providing credit support, credit analysis, and continuous credit monitoring functions across ALL Commercial Credit segments. Primary Responsibilities: Partner with the Commercial Credit teams to provide ongoing credit support and identify areas of improvement throughout the continuous credit monitoring functions. Help lead a team that partners proactively with the Technology and Operation teams and is intimately involved in Early Warning Indicators for the Commercial Bank. Provide an independent credit quality assessment, identifying appropriate operational risks, credit risks and mitigants, industry concerns, market trends, financial trends, and other pertinent credit issues. These assessments pertain to the ongoing risk to the Bank. Support the reporting requests regarding the continuous credit monitoring (CCM) activities, enabling the timely identification of emerging credit risk so that appropriate actions can be taken to manage the risk, minimize losses and assign an accurate risk rating. A CCM program includes but is not limited to annual reviews (and PLRs and Guarantor Assessments), interim update memos, a covenant monitoring program, problem loan management, early warning indicators, and other forms of credit surveillance. Ability to comprehend and utilize all pertinent credit and financial information, including but not limited to financial statements, tax returns, due diligence reports, credit bureaus, appraisals, internal credit information, industry research and peer data. Determine the need for more thorough investigation or additional information. Ability to comprehend spread financial statements and financial models designed to sensitize various conditions impacting the potential risk of the borrower. Ability to understand cash flow analysis, collateral schedules, covenant sensitivity calculations, financial models, and guarantor statement analysis as appropriate. Assist in monitoring credit policy compliance by verifying adherence to the Commercial Credit Policy and commenting on any risk associated with non-compliance. Understand and adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies. Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other duties as assigned. Scope of Responsibilities: Commercial Credit is responsible for the credit delivery of the Bank's commercial clients throughout the credit lifecycle. Credit assessments range from initial analyses of new relationships to the Bank to material modifications or restructurings of long-term relationships and ongoing monitoring through the life of the loan. Commercial Credit is also responsible for ensuring the accurate completion of the Bank's risk rating scorecards and financial statement spreads. The work completed in this capacity is used to make credit decisions for new or renewed or amended credit transactions. Contacts are primarily internal such as credit officers and other bank personnel. The position interacts with commercial banking relationship managers throughout the bank’s footprint and industry verticals. Customer interaction is expected. Works independently under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelors and a minimum of 2 years related business line experience, OR in lieu of a degree, A combined minimum of 6 years higher education and/or work experience.
