About The Position

Talen Energy is seeking a Business Analytics Intern to support our data center origination initiatives, working closely with Corporate Development, Business Development, Legal, and Regulatory teams. This role provides exposure to the strategic, regulatory, and commercial considerations involved in data center development within the power generation industry, with a particular focus on the Ohio market. The intern will assist in analyzing data, researching regulatory and public policy environments, and developing insights that support data center siting, origination strategy, and investment decision-making.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business or a related discipline (e.g., Business Administration, Management, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics)
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Excel (formulas, pivot tables); experience with Power BI or Tableau is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in energy, infrastructure, data centers, or corporate strategy
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and operate in a fast-paced environment

  • Exposure to corporate development, strategy, or market analysis
  • Familiarity with regulated industries, public policy, or government affairs environments
  • Experience preparing executive-level summaries or presentations

Responsibilities

  • Analyze market, financial, and operational data related to data center development and power generation
  • Build and maintain Excel-based models, trackers, and summary dashboards
  • Support development of insights to inform data center origination and corporate development strategy
  • Research Ohio-specific regulatory, legal, and public policy frameworks impacting power generation and data center development
  • Assist in summarizing permitting requirements, compliance considerations, incentive structures, and governance processes
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and incentive developments relevant to data center siting and investment decisions
  • Identify and track key public-sector and governmental stakeholders impacting project development
  • Identify active, existing, and planned developments across the data center and energy ecosystem
  • Map key players (large, mid-size, and emerging) across data centers, utilities, developers, and strategic partners
  • Support competitive and ecosystem analysis tied to origination efforts
  • Support Data Center Origination, Corporate Development, and Business Development teams with research and analysis
  • Prepare briefing materials and executive-ready presentations
  • Coordinate with Legal and Regulatory teams to ensure data accuracy, alignment, and consistency
