About The Position

The Business Analytics Co-op will be vital in assisting the Business Analytics team with harnessing data to optimize business results. The co-op will perform analysis of claims, underwriting and financial data and take part in projects that provide intelligence to all business functions. The role will help to identify and fix data quality issues. This role provides the opportunity to learn advanced analytics skills, data quality assurance, and project management skills.

Requirements

• Must be a current student working towards a degree in a Business Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related field, with an interest in telling a story with data.
• Must have experience working with large sets of data to draw trends and actionable information from data.
• Self-starter who shows solid initiative and ability to work independently with little direction while exercising good judgment and attention to detail.
• Strong work ethic and self-motivated to do high quality work and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
• Project management skills or experience is a plus.
• Strong analytic skills and knowledge of analytic methodologies.
• Must have a sophisticated level of knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel, Power Point and Word, as well a variety of graphics and visualization tools/packages.
• Experience in using SQL for data analysis and manipulation is strongly preferred
• Proficiency with the following toolsets preferred: PowerBI, Python, R
• Strong communication skills, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Respond to requests for data to assist the Coverys enterprise in its mission to grow the business and improve decision-making through actionable business intelligence.
• Manage Claims Analysis requests.
• Understand, query and analyze claims data, create slides for presentation of data, review and validate work and respond to questions on the data.
• Partner with Analysts to identify, design, and build appropriate datasets for complex analysis.
• Assist in collecting, cleaning and analyzing large datasets relating to underwriting, claims and client data.
• Collaborate with cross departmental teams to help define metrics, guidelines, and strategies for effective use of algorithms and data.
• Support the creation of data mining and analytics architectures, coding standards, statistical reporting, data analysis methodologies and statistical techniques.
• Work in project management role for projects with members from Business Analytics and other departments and offices.
• Assist with the application of quality assurance best practices across the organization.
