The Position: CAA Sports is currently seeking a Business Affairs Executive to support sports agents and executives in its Hockey division. The role will cover a wide array of commercial transactions and legal issues including collective bargaining matters, athlete agent regulations, endorsements, branding, marketing, labor and employment law, NIL, immigration and intellectual property rights.

Requirements

  • Qualified attorney with 4 – 6 years of experience at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department in Labor Law
  • Admitted to a state bar, preferably California
  • Excellent written and oral communication, reading, drafting, and negotiation skills while reducing potential areas of risk
  • Understanding of the sports industry and Hockey landscape
  • Ability to provide high-quality work product in a timely manner to meet demands of the organization and to effectively and efficiently juggle multiple priorities
  • Strong work ethic and highly team-oriented
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams) Docusign and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Anticipate and identify potential legal problems for the department and assist in developing strategies to avoid litigation and reduce potential areas of risk

Responsibilities

  • Support agents by negotiating business terms, drafting contracts, maintaining contract templates with a multitude of brands, marketing and PR agencies.
  • Prepare, review, advise on and/or negotiate a wide range of documentation for CAA Hockey such as player representation agreements, collective bargaining matters, legal compliance, evolving athlete agent regulations, NIL Compliance regulations, international sports transactions, intellectual property/image rights, marketing, sponsorship and branding deals, etc.
  • Work with external counsel to support the work authorization/visa application process
  • Serve as a direct point of contact with legal departments amongst off ice brand partners
  • Stay informed on all collective bargaining agreement matters and educate agents on any matters or updates from NHLPA related to the collective bargaining agreement
