About The Position

The Bus Paraprofessional will assist in the safe transportation of special education students to ensure a safe and hazard free environment for all students.

Requirements

• BA or Associates degree in Educational Assistant and teacher certification preferred; related work experience preferred.
• Must have communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
• Prior experience working with children.
• Ability to lift 45 pounds.
• Willing to work split hours for AM and PM routes.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and comfortable environment for students who ride the bus.
• Monitor and assist students with special needs until released to a teacher, designated school employee, or parent/guardian.
• Ensure that students are seated before the vehicle is in motion. Assist students in refastening seat belts as necessary.
• Observe student behavior and take positive action in correcting behavioral problems.
• Assist in bus emergency evacuation.
• Assist in the proper securement of wheelchairs.
• Assist in proper passenger restraint securement.
• Assist with any medical condition a student may have.
• Perform other related duties as required.
