About The Position

The University of Iowa Parking and Transportation is seeking CAMBUS Bus Operators! Under general supervision, operates passenger carrying buses. Uses judgment to deliver safe and reliable public transit services. This position is performed fully on campus. Duties to Include: Operates passenger vehicles in a variety of conditions. Assists riders to safely board and exit the vehicle. Maintains route schedules in a reasonable and safe manner. Provides customer services to riders, including relaying system information and answering questions in a professional and courteous manner. Uses on-board vehicle equipment, including mobile data terminals, in compliance with agency policy. Performs vehicle inspections and checks to ensure vehicle is in safe operating condition for passenger carry. Report equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel. Report delays, breakdowns, and accidents to dispatch and in written reports. Assists riders with disabilities in compliance with agency policies and ADA regulations, including securing wheelchairs and other medical or mobility equipment. Schedule: 8-hour shift ( occasional overtime required ), plus unpaid lunch period, within operating hours of Monday through Friday, 4:00AM-9:30PM Department: Parking & Transportation - CAMBUS Location: West Campus Transportation Center About Parking & Transportation: The Parking and Transportation Department provides and supports access, mobility, and transportation services to faculty, staff, students, patients, and visitors of The University of Iowa. A unit of the Parking and Transportation Department, CAMBUS is the university’s on-campus bus transportation system. CAMBUS is an FTA-funded system and services are no fare and open to the public. Minimum Eligibility Requirements: Must possess a valid US Driver’s License. Must pass and maintain driving privileges in accordance with University Driving Policy. Possess, or ability to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement, and Airbrakes restriction lifted. Subject to drug and alcohol testing in compliance with FTA regulations. Special Qualifications: A valid driver’s license is required, as well as an ability to meet University of Iowa Driving Policy This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing in compliance with FTA regulations. Desirable Qualifications: Knowledgeable of campus and service area. Experience driving a Class B Transit bus in an urban setting. Ability to communicate clearly with operators, dispatch, supervisors, and other agency personnel through written, verbal, and radio communication. Ability to work and maintain professional composure in stressful situations. Requirements
