About The Position

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth-largest transportation system in the U.S., connecting communities across a 2,200-square-mile service region. We are seeking candidates for the position of Bus/Light Rail Operator in our city and suburban divisions that have a desire to serve the public and invest in your future and grow within the company. As a bus operator you will drive vehicles along specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules, complying with traffic regulations, while ensuring that passengers have a safe ride and providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements.
  • A minimum of 3 years licensed driving experience.
  • Clean driving record in the last 3 years.
  • Ability to successfully complete employment interview, employment history verification, criminal background check and medical examination including drug screening.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, split days off, especially during first two years of employment. Required to be available for all shifts.
  • Commitment to safety and excellent customer service.
  • Candidates without a high school diploma or GED must complete and pass a standardized assessment to qualify for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Drives passenger vehicle while following all safety procedures for vehicle operation.
  • Abide by all SEPTA policies and procedures.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to passengers.
  • Follow traffic laws, SEPTA policies, and safety regulations.
  • Assist passengers getting on and off the bus, including but not limited to the elderly and those with disabilities.
  • Monitor fare collection and issue transfers when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and report any incidents, delays, accidents or passenger emergencies.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and maintenance compliance.
  • Prepare accident reports as needed.
