A School Bus Monitor ensures the safety, comfort, and behavior management of students during bus transport. Key duties include assisting students with boarding/exiting, securing wheelchairs and restraints, monitoring student conduct, managing behavior, providing basic first aid, and performing emergency evacuations. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, patience, calmness under pressure, and the ability to physically assist students and operate specialized equipment. Physical Demands include but not limited to: Standing, walking, and sitting: Monitors must be able to move around the bus, stand to supervise students, and sit for prolonged periods during routes. Reaching, bending, and stooping: Duties include reaching for items, assisting students into seats, and securing equipment. Climbing: This is necessary for boarding and exiting the bus and may be required for emergency procedures. Flexibility and agility: Monitors must be able to move in a manner suitable for caring for young children, which can involve squatting and kneeling. Lifting and handling Assisting students: The monitor may need to physically assist students when getting on and off the bus. Lifting and carrying: The ability to lift, carry, push, or pull weights up to 50 pounds, particularly when working with students who have mobility challenges or moving adaptive equipment. Operating equipment: Monitors may need to operate wheelchair lifts, secure wheelchairs, or fasten special restraint systems.
