About The Position

Assists with transportation of children door-to-door from their homes to our Child Care/Head Start centers and Family Child Care Homes in our communities, following established schedules. Establish and maintain a safe environment for the children.

Requirements

  • Must be comfortable working with diverse backgrounds and able to effectively communicate with children, families and co-workers.
  • Must be or become certified in CPR & First Aid within the time frame required by EEC licensing.
  • Must be able to handle the physical aspects of the position including the lifting of a child during bus evacuations and to assist children into car seats.
  • Proof of physical exam within the last year determining good health and meeting all EEC requirements. Must submit proof of physical exam every 2 years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish or Portuguese skills preferred.
  • Priority given to past or present Head Start parents.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all SMOC policies, EEC regulations and Head Start Standards.
  • Follow SMOC’s Transportation Plan.
  • Follow all safety and regulatory guidelines as children board and exit buses and for release of children to authorized adults on pickup list.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records with times on/off as children board and exit the bus.
  • Monitor behavior of all children on the bus and work with bus driver and program staff to address any behavior concerns.
  • Ensure that all children are properly seated and in proper car seat/seatbelt, if appropriate, at all times.
  • Conduct proper vehicle inspection at the end of each run to ensure that all children have exited the bus.
  • Properly complete and submit all required documentation to the Center Director or designee in a timely manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of First Aid/CPR and EEC transportation regulations.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings sessions.
  • Keep bus interior clean from the children.
  • Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.
  • Attend & participate in engagement team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as, SMOC policies & procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
