About The Position

To assist the Self Contained Special Education Teacher with the implementation of the Individual Education Plan for students with various types of disabilities in a self- contained classroom setting. To assist in providing a well-organized, smooth functioning class/computer lab environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program.

Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain an AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card ( required ).
  • High School diploma or equivalent ( preferred ).
  • Experience working with school- aged children.
  • Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children with various learning and physical disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in planning and modifying activities/work assignments for individual students.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing the activities /work assignments for individual students (small groups and individuals).
  • Follow a lesson plan, chart or guide evolved by teacher.
  • Consults frequently with the teacher about the needs, suggestions, questions, problems, and progress of the student.
  • Assists the teacher in progress monitoring of students.
  • Assists teacher in maintaining classroom discipline and control.
  • Maintains adequate and legible records concerning his/her students work with teacher direction.
  • Assists the teacher with preparation of instructional materials.
  • Attends district in-service workshops for instructional aides when release time or pay is given.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Participate in the Medicaid Reimbursement program which includes maintaining monthly logs on eligible students; attending scheduled training.
  • Assists with personal care activities for special education self- contained students, including feeding, toileting and medical protocol.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

  • 6 hours/day holiday pay (after 60 day probation)
