About The Position

The Community Group (TCG) is a private, nonprofit organization creating opportunities through education since 1970. TCG manages a range of programs, including a network of early childhood and out-of-school time programs, a network of charter and district public schools, consulting and training programs, and a child care resource and referral program, Child Care Circuit. Role The role of the Bus Monitor is to ensure the safety of children in transit, to make their trips to and from day care as pleasant as possible, and to facilitate communication between parents and programs. This position is FLSA non-exempt and reports to the Transportation Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish is preferred
  • Experience working in child care setting or school-aged children
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexible schedule
  • Must possess the qualifications required for their positions in accordance with Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations
  • Successful completion of CORI, SORI and fingerprint background checks required by EEC

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the care, safety and well-being of children in the group
  • Ride with children each day to and from day care and/or school, making sure that whenever applicable, children are secure in car seats or seat belts
  • Maintain a written bus route, revising for changes, additions and/or deletions whenever necessary, with a current copy to be kept on file with the Transportation Manager
  • Take responsibility for car seats: inventory, regular cleaning and maintenance
  • Ensure each child is accounted for and that there are emergency and release permission forms for each child on board
  • Report any problems with driver, equipment, children or parents to the Transportation Manager
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the CDCC Confidentiality Policy
  • Ensure that children enter and leave bus in a safe manner and that children are released to approved adults
  • Report any sign of abuse or neglect to the Transportation Manager and Program Director
  • Conduct bus evacuation drills twice per year
  • Participate in training as required by CDCC (CPR, First Aid, OSHA, etc.)
  • Provide a program inclusive to all children and families regardless of lifestyle and belief system
  • Participate in staff meetings, and on-going trainings
  • Complete all required certifications
  • Provide backup coverage as needed
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor
