About The Position

The Bus Monitor/Floater position at SRCAA is designed for individuals who are passionate about serving the community and working in a safe, fulfilling, and family-oriented environment. Under the direction of the Center Manager, this role involves providing support through various means, including classroom assistance, child supervision both in the classroom and on the bus, and nutrition assistance. The position requires a high degree of flexibility to fulfill daily duties effectively. The Bus Monitor/Floater will assist the bus driver in ensuring safe and punctual transportation for children to and from classroom sites, while also observing and monitoring children's behavior, interacting with parents and staff to promote the well-being of the children. The general duties of this role include assisting in all areas of the Center, supervising children at all times to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment, and preparing materials and activities for children in a classroom setting. The Bus Monitor/Floater will escort children during boarding and exiting the bus, complete daily sign-in and sign-out sheets, and ensure that all children are secured in appropriate seat belts or restraints. Additionally, the individual will visually assess the health of each child on the bus and address any behavioral issues that may compromise safety. Collaboration with the bus driver is essential to ensure that each child is delivered to a responsible adult upon leaving the bus, and the Bus Monitor/Floater must ensure that no child is left unattended at any time. Professional responsibilities include adhering to a professional development plan, which may involve attending training sessions and meetings to enhance job performance. The Bus Monitor/Floater must follow all agency, program, and state/federal guidelines, report any instances of child abuse or neglect, and maintain positive communication with parents, drivers, and site staff. The position requires a commitment to safety practices related to preschool children and the ability to work with minimal supervision while demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.
