About The Position

The Paradise Unified School District is seeking a Bus Driver to transport students to and from school, on field trips, and other designated sites. The Bus Driver is responsible for ensuring the safety of student passengers while operating a 10-speed school bus over mountainous and narrow roads, adhering to established bus schedules. This position operates under general supervision and requires compliance with standard policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of California State Motor Vehicle Code, the California State Education Code, and District policies related to the operation of vehicles used in the transport of students.
  • Basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Safe driving practices.
  • Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions independently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain proper student conduct on school vehicle.
  • Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution while driving.
  • Maintain valid certification as a school bus driver according to State regulators.
  • Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Responsibilities

  • Drives a 10-speed school bus or other transportation vehicle within prescribed routes according to time schedules, picking up and discharging students at designated stops.
  • Escorts students across streets using the bus flashing red lights signal.
  • Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locations, planning necessary routes and stops as needed.
  • Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to District policy; enforces bus riding rules.
  • Issues written bus citations to students and communicates directly with parents regarding bus discipline problems.
  • Conducts safety and operational inspections of assigned bus daily prior to starting route.
  • Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary.
  • Services buses with gas, diesel fuel, and oil; checks and fills tires and batteries.
  • Performs periodic safety drills as required by law; completing necessary reports upon request.
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Completes mileage and other reports including passenger counts.
  • Adheres as closely as possible to established schedule of bus stop arrival and departure times.
  • Attends driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as it applies to the operation of vehicles in the transportation of school children.
  • Operates a two-way radio.
  • Chains bus when road conditions deem it necessary.
  • Washes bus as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.
